October 21, 2008

U10 GIRLS
In a true team effort, four Scorpions including Monika Morasse, Sydney Jurgens, Kate Gleason, and Olivia Davet (2) scored goals to beat a battling Highland team 5 to 4.  Kelsey Burns, Brynne Growney and Hannah Cast held back many attacks with skillful defensive play.  Up field, Amelia Harding, Erin Briggs and Briana Wallace controlled the ball with excellent passing.  Kayla Beckvermit, sharing goaltending duties with Kate Gleason, was a force to be reckoned with on the wing.

U12 GIRLS
In a grueling match with Wallkill Ridgerunners, the visiting Predators finished off their opponents 2-1. After going behind early, the Predators fought back and scored twice to seal the victory. Kelsey Fosstveit fed a cross to Lisa Weissburg who drove the ball home for the first Predator goal. The second Predator goal was on an indirect kick from 20 yards out. Jacqueline Hogan touched the ball to Victoria Colotti who struck the ball over the wall into the top of the net. Julia Kerr, Mary Gallo, and Erin Leahy provided constant offensive pressure. Samantha Sabini had a great game in goal.

U13 GIRLS
The Cyclones battled the first place Orange County Express to a 3-3 tie. Cornwall dominated the first half, jumping out to a 1-0 lead when Alex Steinmann scored early. Stephanie Soto, playing her first game in goal for the Cyclones, kept the high scoring Express off the scoreboard at half time. Rock-solid defense throughout the game from Rose Foody, Krissy McGonnigle, Olivia Tellefsen and Jessica McGowan.  Sam Fowler scored the last goal of the game, bringing the score to 3-3 in the closing minutes.

U13 BOYS
The Storm tied Dover 2-2. The Storm came out with great intensity in the second half to tie the score and then defended fiercely against their opponent’s surge in the final moments of the game.  Andrew Stein scored the first goal on a long boot and Davis Fleming scored the second on a penalty. Strong defensive effort from sweeper Matt DeSouza.
