General News: Major Girls Lose One in State Finals

Cornwall girls major softball team took a loss in the second round of the State Finals against Staten Island's Mid-Island, 2-1 Sunday. The team is scheduled to play Tuesday in Brewster at 5:30 p.m. when they take on Islip Americans.
In Sunday's game, Cassie Browne was three for three with the only RBI for Cornwall.
Staten Island scored in the bottom of the first. Cornwall came back at the top of the 6th when Cassie Browne's two-out hit to left scored Caroline Staudle to tie the game. Staten Island put three runners on base in the bottom of the 6th and scored the go-ahead run on a tip past third.
The winner of Tuesday's game will play a double-header on Wednesday starting at 11 a.m.. The winner must defeat Staten Island twice for the state crown.
