From the Cornwall Public Library

Beloved artist and children’s author Iza Trapani will be visiting Cornwall Public Library on Thursday, October 23rd at 4:00 p.m., to introduce herself and her wonderful books to young library patrons - including her new book Rufus and Friends: Rhyme Time, about a motley canine crew who act out fourteen silly, tongue-twisting rhymes. As a special treat, Iza will create some illustrations ‘on-site’ based on input from our young patrons. She will also describe how her books and illustrations come together. All are welcome to be present for Iza’s visit, and registration is requested.

“We are thrilled that Iza is going to spend time with us on the 23rd. She is very talented and creative, and her books are quite popular with our young readers and their parents,” said Molly Robbins, Cornwall Library Director. “We have also made arrangements for Iza’s books to be available for purchase through the Friends of Cornwall Public Library, for those who wish to add one or more of these wonderful creations to their personal collection.”

Iza is best known for her much-loved nursery rhyme books, including The Itsy Bitsy Spider, Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star, and I’m a Little Teapot. These celebrated rhymes helped Iza to learn English as a young child, and instilled in her a love of language and reading. Born in communist-ruled Poland, Iza and her mother moved to America when she was seven. “I had just arrived in the United States from Poland and was given a big, beautiful Mother Goose collection. Speaking only Polish at the time, I soon began to learn English while I spent many magical hours immersed in that book. The sounds, rhythms, and playful language in the verses captivated me.” As a young adult, Iza worked various jobs to put herself through college but held onto her passion for the books of her childhood and hoped to one day write children’s books of her own. “It was a love I never outgrew.”

To date Iza has written and illustrated seventeen books for children and illustrated four for other authors. She has also won numerous awards, including the Rip Van Winkle Award, two Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Gold Book Awards, the Bank Street College of Education’s Best Children’s Book of the Year award, and a Children’s Book Council Children’s Choice Award. Iza is blessed by the warm reception of her books by readers young and old alike. She attributes much of her success to her parents, who instilled in her an appreciation for books, art, and music.

Iza lives with her husband in the Hudson River Valley, New York. Visit her website at www.izatrapani.com.
