General News: Cornwall United Soccer Week 1

U11 GIRLS
The U11 Cheetahs played to a 3 – 3 tie against the Mahopac Wildcats this past Sunday. The game started slowly however it picked up the pace as time wore on with the Cheetahs holding a two-goal edge leading into the final minutes.

However, the Wildcats capitalized on the heat exhausted home team with score off a corner kick. Micah Wojehowski and Lauren Pinkham played outstanding as goalkeepers. Scoring for the home team was Jillian Decker, Lilian Poling and Samantha Nelbach.   

U12 GIRLS
The Predators beat the Red Hook Hurricanes 2-1.Red Hook pressured Cornwall’s defense for the opening 10 minutes, but the strong trio of Mariah Hernandez, Erin Leahy, and Johanna Caufaglione held firm, shutting down the opponent’s offense.

Victoria Colotti struck gold on a ball to the right corner giving Cornwall a 1-0 lead. Colotti connected to the back of the net a second time on an 18-yard blast into the upper corner. Kelly Moran and Kelsey Fosstveit had sharp games in the midfield creating multiple counter attacks. Samantha Sabini had an excellent game in goal posting 5 saves.

U13 GIRLS
The Cyclones began their season against the formidable North Salem Twisters.  The game was very competitive throughout with both teams playing a tough physical game. The only score in the first half belonged to North Salem.  They added another in the second half to win 2-0.  

Cyclones defender Rose Foody was a dominant presence in the backfield.  Midfielder Samantha Fowler played an exceptional game, stealing the ball and slide tackling from end line to end line.  Olivia Tellefsen anchored the defense, frustrating the Twister offense repeatedly.  Alex Steinmann, who played midfield and striker, also played with great intensity and passion.

U10 BOYS
The BU10 Strikers opened their season with a 3-2 loss to the Beekman Revolution. The team blasted into the second half with impressive teamwork by all. Brian Flannery playing offense exhaustively scored the first goal for the Strikers in the second half. With an assist from Joseph Maloney, Nick Coppola tied the game with the second goal. Both Matthew Cartoon & Craig DeSouza shared five saves at the goal. Max Cameron played aggressive defense for the Strikers in both halves.

U13 BOYS
Strong shooting and tight defense resulted in a 4-1 Dragon victory over long-time rival Dover.  Aggressive play by the offense led to goals scored by Jake McRae (2), Damon Neil and Matt DeSouza on a rebound.  Ryan Mellino controlled the defense while Kevin Stevens was outstanding in goal.
