The 11-year-old Cornwall Girls Softball team took another step forward in their bid to play in the New York State Final Four tournament when they defeated the team from Beekman, in Dutchess County, by a score of 14-2, on Monday in a game played in Cornwall.

The Cornwall players scored early, and often. Laura Craig was the winning pitcher, giving up just three hits. Tara Mirabile got a single and a run scored. Ileana LaGrutta had one RBI while Tricia Hartnettt had two hits and twoRBI.

Coach Mike Cast said that he is just proud of the girls and how they faced the opposing team. “They kept their composure,” he said.

On Wednesday, the Cornwall team will meet their rivals from Rockland, who traditionally give the team its stiffest competition. The game will be played at Heroes Field in Nanuet at 7:30 p.m..
