** The town received a $4,700 grant from the Orange County Youth Bureau to develop summer programs for local youth.
** The town agreed to pay $24,000+ for its share in cleaning up the old Orange County Landfill. The state requires every municipality and business that ever sent garbage to the landfill to pay a portion of the clean-up costs. Supervisor Dick Randazzo noted that the state had earlier told Cornwall its portion was going to be around $53,000 and he said that the town had “probably been treated fairly” in the current settlement.
** The Cornwall Police Department will be getting nearly $5,000 in new computer equipment as it switches to a web-based computer system. A legislative grant from Senator Bill Larkin’s office will re-imburse the town for most of the cost.
** The Cornwall Town Board authorized a study for speed reductions on Pleasant Hill Road and Otterkill Road. The current speed limit on Pleasant Hill is 55 mph and 40 mph on Otterkill. Supervisor Randazzo said the curviness of these roads may require a lowering of the limits by the state.
