Capt. Petraeus was also a valued member of the Cornwall Yacht Club. He will be missed by all.

Sixtus was an active lector at his church in Cornwall-on-Hudson, the Presbyterian, right up until the time when he departed Cornwall in the middle of 2004 to go to California. He was a great reader. Whenever he opened the scriptures, people would noticably lean forward. Sure, it was his accent, but mostly it was his integrity and personality.

My husband and I purchased Sixtus Petraeus' home on Avenue A a few years ago. Though neither of us have ever met Mr. Petraeus or the General, we corresponded with his daughter in California and kept her abreast of some changes we were making to the house. We follow the news on General David and feel proud to be living in the home where he grew up. I am saddened to hear of his death. Perhaps some comfort may come to his family knowing that a new soul is living in his home. Our son, James England McGuirk was born May 22, 2008. We look forward to our son enjoying his childhood living in this special house.

Cap. Petraeus was pals with my Dad,Charlie Franklin, long time sailors from the yacht club and co-workers at CHGE. When I was a kid he showed me how to use a sailor's palm, a tool used for sewing sails. I loved listening to them out in the back yard when he and my dad used to hang out. He was greatly admired and touched many lives in a very positive way. How lucky we were to have him here. My condolences to his family.

Years ago , I used to live on Avenue A. Mr. Patraeus used to ride his bike all around the neighborhood. He was very interesting . He would sometimes stop to chat. I am sorry for the loss.
