General News: Art Along the Hudson Expands

Cornwall residents won’t have to go very far this summer to enjoy an abundance of art.
On Thursday, arts groups announced the expansion of Art Along the Hudson, which started five years ago to promote cultural events in Newburgh, Beacon, Poughkeepsie, and Kingston. Today, the network of cities that will work together to highlight exhibits of paintings, jazz music, and open studios includes the cities of Rhinebeck, Hudson and Catskill.
Steven Evans, the assistant curator of Dia: Beacon, which hosted Thursday’s event, spoke of the evocative nature of the river that unites all of the cities. “The common riverfront vista is the common thread,” Evans said. “It is a common source of artistic inspiration.”
Evans pointed to a recent permanent sculpture by artist George Trakas that the museum has installed on the Beacon waterfront as a symbol of the retaking of the river from its industrialized past.
