General News: Top Awards to High School Drama Club

Anyone who has caught a performance of the Cornwall High School Drama Club knows that the productions are top notch. This school year's productions of Once Upon a Mattress and Rumors captured the attention of regional drama critics in an annual community college awards competition. The high school's drama director/advisor, Richard Auferio, has the details.
The Cornwall Central High School Drama Club is proud to say that it has once again been recognized at this year's Dutchess Community College Theater Awards Ceremony, which took place at Dutchess Community College on Wednesday, May 23rd. Representatives from schools within Orange, Ulster and Dutchess counties were in attendance.
Last year, the Drama Club entered in the Musical category only and won several awards including Best Musical, Best Actor in a Musical, and an Honorable Mention for Best Actress in a Musical. This year the Drama Club entered in both the Musical and non-Musical categories, and walked away with no less than 16 awards, the most by any of the competing schools.
The fall play, Rumors, won three separate awards including Best Play (non-Musical), Best Actor in a Play: Michael Barrows, and Best Director of a Play: Richard Aufiero. They also received several Honorable Mention awards including Best Featured Actor: Matt Knochen, Best Featured Actress: Valentina Monte, and Best Set Design: Tony Ravinsky.
In the Musical category, the Drama Club received numerous awards for the spring show, Once Upon a Mattress. The club won the award for the Best Musical and and for Best Costumes, which were the creations of Jean Dally and Jan Palaggi.
The Drama Club also received Honorable Mention awards for eight different categories including Best Director of a Musical: Richard Aufiero, Best Choreography: Susan Downey, Best Actor in a Musical: Michael Barrows, Best Actress in a Musical: Kaitlyn McKeon, Best Featured Actress in a Musical: Angela Palaggi, Best Set Design: Tony Ravinsky, Best Lighting Design: Tony Ravinsky, and Best Chorus in a Musical.
A tremendous amount of talent exists within Cornwall Central High School's Drama Club and this recognition showcases that perfectly. All those associated with the Drama Club are very honored and thankful, and are looking forward to next year’s productions and competition. Regardless of the results, rest assured that everyone will strive to put forth their very best effort in everything they do.
