Monday marked the seventh Memorial Day parade I have enjoyed in Cornwall, an event that draws neighbors together to watch a parade that is enduring, in part, because of its predictability.

The American Legion color guard led it off, with honored elected officials following in behind in polished cars and on foot. Firemen and women, police, NYMA’s band all fell in line as they walked down Hudson Street.

Civil war-era military musicians played the lively tunes of marching with the high school band close behind. Boy scouts, girl scouts and McLeods bagpipe players brought up the rear.
