General News: Cornwall Chamber Aims to Bring Shoppers Back Home
May 17, 2007
Imagine, if you will, that you are strolling down Main Street in Cornwall or around the square in the village, stopping at the small shops and specialty stores where the owner knows your name and maybe even that of your children. Does this sound like a dream of the distant past? Not if the Greater Cornwall Chamber of Commerce succeeds in its new effort to draw shoppers back into town.
Buy local is becoming a major theme of the early 21st century as people realize the many advantages of putting money back into their local economy. To help shoppers become re-acquainted with the small pleasures of shopping locally, the Greater Cornwall Chamber of Commerce has designed a Shop Hop that will run every third Saturday beginning May 19th.
Five participating businesses have gotten together to offer valuable gifts and services that will be raffled off to people who visit the five businesses this Saturday.
Cromwell Manor, one of the top-rated bed & breakfasts in New York State, is offering a free night’s stay in one of its historic rooms, a value of $260. The PC Surgeon is giving away free computer services totaling $350, while the Cornwall Yarn Shop is offering free knitting lessons and yarn. Giftworks, in Cornwall-on-Hudson, will provide an elaborate basket chock full of goodies and Jack of All Trades is offering $160 worth of free home small repair service.
All you need to do is pick up a raffle card at one of the participating businesses, then get it signed at all of the five businesses. This unique raffle will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
