A dramatic piece of outdoor sculpture by Argentine artist Alejandro Dron has been installed outside of St. Luke’s Cornwall hospital on Laurel Avenue in Cornwall.
The red metal sculpture, called “Aleph,”* is one of several pieces created by Dron, who now lives in Newburgh with his wife and daughter. (You may view more of his work here.)
Aleph was previously on display at Washington headquarters in Newburgh. Cornwall-on-Hudson residents Eugene Randazzo and Deke Hazirjian, who both serve on the Local Development Corporation, worked with the hospital to bring the sculpture to Cornwall.
Hospital spokesperson Judi Stokes says that St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital has a long history of supporting the arts in our community. She notes that local painter Vivien Collens has worked with the hospital in displaying local artwork “for the enjoyment of patients, visitors, physicians, and employees.”
Dron’s sculpture sits off the rear parking lot and is visible from Route 9W.
*The Aleph is the title of a short story by Argentine writer Jorge Luis Borges. In Borges's story, the Aleph is a point in space that contains all other points. Anyone who gazes into it can see everything in the universe from every angle simultaneously, without distortion, overlapping or confusion. The story continues the theme of infinity found in several of Borges's other works, such as "The Book of Sand.” From Wikipedia.
