General News: Cornwall Softball Team Gets 3 Straight Wins

The Cornwall High School varsity softball team is racked up wins in non-league play as it defeated its first three opponents of the season this week. In all three games, Cornwall did not allow any runs.

The softball team faces its first league opponent, Goshen, in an away game today.

On Thursday, Cornwall blanked the team from Liberty, with a final score of 11-0.

Cornwall’s Kelsey Hand pitched a two-hitter game and struck out 11 hitters. On the offense side, Amy Lindland doubled, singled and had two RBI and Alyssa Condomitti added a double, single and an RBI for Cornwall (3-0). Alyssa Burkhart and Katie Visconti each had two hits and an RBI.

On Wednesday, the team did not allow any runs in its game against John Burke ending with a score of 3-0.

The game remained scoreless until the seventh inning when the Lady Dragons scored three runs.

Jess Wood allowed just six hits in shutting out Burke Catholic for Cornwall’s second win of the season. Wood struck out six batters while walking only one.

Danielle Johnston led the offense with two hits including an RBI double in the seventh inning. Alyssa Burkhart and Amy Lindland also doubled for the winners.

The season’s first match-up, against O’Neill on Monday, ended with a 4-0 victory for the Lady Dragons.

In that game, Kelsey Hand pitched a four-hit shutout and added three hits on offense to lead the Lady Dragons to their opening game victory. Hand hit two doubles and drove in two runs to help her own cause.

Amy Lindland also had three hits, including a double. Alyssa Condomitti and Erin Miller each drove in a run with base hits. Katie Visconti made the defensive play of the game by throwing out an O'Neill runner at the plate to preserve the shutout.
