Officials at the Cornwall-on-Hudson Elementary School shut down the bathrooms Thursday morning after a sewer line on Church Street collapsed. School principal Kenneth Schmidt said in a letter to parents that problem resulted from the ground being disturbed during recent road work.
Throughout the day, students at the school were escorted across Hudson Street to the Storm King Fire Engine Company’s community room to use bathroom facilities.
Principal Schmidt said that it has not yet been determined if the school will be in session on Friday.
Schmidt also noted that the bathroom shutdown comes on the heels of the water advisory from the village that cut off access to tap water at the school. He informed parents in his letter that water was supplied to students and staff by the school cafeteria and that instant hand sanitizer was also provided to all classrooms.
