General News: Teacher's Trial Postponed Two Weeks
March 14, 2008
The harassment trial of Daniella Jones has been rescheduled for April 22 at 6 p.m. It had originally been scheduled by town judge Francis Navarra for April 9 at 12 noon.
Jones is accused by a student of striking in him the face because he was chewing gum on January 2, 2008. She was terminated by the school district shortly after the incident.
Jones' attorney Paul Trachte said recently that he and his client wanted the bench trial. Jones has said that she is unhappy with the internal investigation by school officials.
The first trial date has been delayed to avoid disruption of school schedules, according to Judge Navarra's clerk, Pat Carridi. It is likely that students who witnessed the incident will be called on to testify. On Wednesday, attorney Trachte said he would call as many witnesses as are "willing to come forward and tell the truth." The prosecution plans to call four witnesses.
