LEGAL NOTICE OF SPECIAL DISTRICT MEETING

Notice is hereby given that the Cornwall Public Library Board of Trustees of the Cornwall Central School District, Orange County, New York, shall hold a Special District Meeting of qualified voters of said School District to be held at the Cornwall Public Library, 395 Hudson Street, Cornwall, NY 12518 on Tuesday, April 8, 2008 from 10:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M. for the purpose of voting by voting machine on the Cornwall Public Library operating budget for 2008-2009 and for the election of a member of the Cornwall Public Library Board of Trustees according to Education Law.

Notice is hereby further given that a copy of the statement of the amount of money which will be required for the ensuing year for public library purposes, exclusive of public monies, may be obtained by any school district taxpayer during the ten (10) days prior to the Special District Meeting, at the Cornwall Public Library, 395 Hudson Street, Cornwall, NY 12518 during regular library hours listed below:
Monday-Thursday: 10 A.M. – 8 P.M.
Friday: 10 A.M. – 6 P.M.
Saturday: 10 A.M. – 4 P.M.
Sunday: 1 P.M. – 4 P.M.

Notice is hereby further given that petitions to nominate candidates to the office of Trustee of the Cornwall Public Library Board of Trustees are available at the Cornwall Public Library during regular library hours listed above.

Petitions must be filed at the Cornwall Public Library, 395 Hudson Street, Cornwall, NY 12518 no later than 5 P.M. on Friday, March 7, 2008. The petition must be signed by at least twenty-five (25) qualified voters of the district, and must state name and residence of the candidate. The following vacancies are to be filled: One full term of five (5) years.

Notice is also hereby given that pursuant to Section 2014 of the Education Law, personal registration of voters is required, and no person shall be entitled to vote at said meeting whose names does not appear on the register of said School District or who does not register as hereinafter provided, except a person who is otherwise qualified to vote and is registered under the provisions of Article 5 of the election Law. The Board of Registration shall prepare a register for said special district meeting, except that the register prepared at the last annual meeting or election shall be used as the basis therefore and shall include all persons who shall have presented themselves personally for registration thereat and also all persons who shall have been previously registered hereunder for any annual or special district meeting or election and who shall have voted at any annual or special district meeting or election held or conducted at any time within four years prior to the preparation of said register.

Any person shall be entitled to have his or her name placed upon the register by personally registering at the District Clerk’s office, at least five days prior to the Special District Meeting, during normal business hours and proving to the Clerk entitlement to vote at such special district meeting. The register prepared pursuant to Section 2014 of the Education Law shall be filed in the office of the District Clerk and will be open for inspection by any qualified voter of the District on each of the five days prior to and the day set for the school district meeting, between the hours of 9:00 o’clock A.M. and 3:00 o’clock P.M.; Prevailing Time, except Saturday, April 5 and Sunday, April 6, 2008.

Notice is hereby given that applications for absentee ballots may be applied for at the office of the District Clerk. Any such application must be received by the District Clerk at least seven days before the date of the aforesaid Special District Meeting if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter, or the day before such Special District Meeting if the ballot is to be delivered personally to the voter. A list of all persons to whom absentee voter’s ballots shall have been issued shall be available for public inspection in the office of the District Clerk not less than five days prior to the date of the Special District Meeting (excluding Saturdays and Sundays) during regular office hours until the date of the aforesaid Special District Meeting.
