The telephone company, Verizon, was out in full force in the village of Cornwall-on-Hudson on Monday, installing new fiber optic cable that will be able to carry phone, internet, and television cable signals.
Verizon will be offering hi-speed internet and phone on the newly-install fibers but not cable. Verizon must first obtain the franchise to offer cable service. Currently, Time-Warner Cable holds the local cable franchise and offers a package of telephone, internet, and cable.
According to Verizon spokeswoman Heather Wilner, the phone company now offers its cable service to people in Long Island, Westchester, and Rockland counties, but not in Orange county.
