General News: Wi-Fi Hot Spot in Village Center
January 28, 2008
Would you like to sit on a bench in the village square and surf the internet on your laptop? You may be able to do that starting this week, thanks to the efforts of a local ham radio enthusiast and cellular phone specialist.
Bob Langston, who lives on Hudson Street between Avenue A and Colonial Place, reports that he has installed a wireless hub in the attic of his home and plans to add an antenna later this week. The free wireless signal will be directed down Hudson Street toward the village square.
When you are looking for a wireless network and see “C-on-H” as one of your options, you can click it and use it without a password, Langston says.
The closer you get to his residence, the house with the 40-foot radio tower and the inflatable Grinch outside, the stronger the signal will be.
Comments:
what a wonderful addition to the village thank you Bob. It would be nice to have a hot spot at the yacht club for relaxing work while at the river front.

I get WiFi service on my mooring on the Hudson at Chelsea Yacht Club - I have a directional antenna that allows me to access WiFi spots on shore - even when I'm out under sail!
