General News: All-Natural Burger Joint Proposed

Plans for the renovated building
Plans for the renovated building
March 08, 2007

A new burger joint is in the works for Cornwall, according to plans presented to the planning board earlier this week.

Woody’s All Natural Burgers and Fries, along with a Baker’s Dozen Bagel Express, is planned for a building on Quaker Avenue that once housed a tailor shop across from the shopping center.

Local businessman Deke Hazirjian came up with the idea for a restaurant that serves locally-grown, all-natural food and benefits local farmers. He intends to serve Hudson Valley raised beef and chicken, along with potatoes and onions grown by the black dirt farmers of Orange County.

“Local food makes economic sense,” Hazirjian says, “because it tastes good and it creates more job opportunities in the area.”

Hazirjian also says no trans-fat will be used in the cooking process and he wants to re-use the oil used for cooking the fries to run a converted diesel engine in the truck used for pick-ups and deliveries.

A public hearing on the plans will be held at the Town Planning Board meeting on April 2 at Cornwall Town Hall.
