General News: Master Plan Proposals Open for Public Comment
July 14, 2006
It’s not too late to submit your comments on proposals for a new Village Master Plan.
The village Master Plan committee will be busy all summer, writing and editing the final document that will be presented to the public around Labor Day.
Village Government Likely to Get Plan in the Fall
After this public review, the master plan will be submitted to the county for review, then finally presented to the Village Mayor and Board of Trustees this fall. The trustees must vote to accept the plan in full – it cannot pick and choose which recommendations to adopt.
A summary draft of the plan’s proposal was presented to the public in June and committee chairman Lee Murphy says that written comments for consideration in the final plan are welcomed. You can send in your comment via email to [email protected].
Big Issues: Riverfront Development, Design and New Construction Guidelines
The Master Plan addresses many key issues in the village, including development of the riverfront and methods for traffic control at the intersection of Hudson Street and Duncan Avenue. A wide-ranging design proposal is part of the plan, covering topics from air conditioner placement to dangling wires. Many of the design guidelines aim at maintaining and enhancing the historic character of the village.
Proposed new construction guidelines focus on a building’s siting and its scale in relation to its neighbors.
