Grafitti was sprayed on St. John's Episcopal Church on Clinton Street in Cornwall Friday night while a window was broken over the weekend in the village.
Members of the Episcopal church discovered the side wall of the church had been sprayed with black paint when they arrived early Saturday morning, according to an employee of the rectory, who said the incident was reported to the police. The graffiti included the anarchy symbol as well as anti-religious phrases.
In the village, resident and local businessman Deke Hazirjian said that a piece of asphalt was thrown through the window of a house he is planning to convert into a business property on Hudson Street. He found the broken window on Sunday morning. Cornwall-on-Hudson police chief Charles Williams also confirms that police are investigating a recent burglary across the street from Hazirjian's property at the newly-opened Pisces restaurant and bar.
