General News: Communities That Care Still At Work in Cornwall
February 23, 2007
By Alice M. Hall
The Core Group of Communities That Care have been meeting on a regular basis. This small group, including parents, church and community leaders, is convinced that our town and village will benefit from this program. Communities That Care has been successful in preventing such problems as underage drinking, drug use, teenage pregnancy, drop-out of high school and juvenile delinquency throughout the United States and internationally.
The best thing about Cornwall has been that it is a family-oriented town and village and it is a wonderful place to raise children. Embracing Communities That Care seems a logical step forward to enhance what we already have and find new ways to give our children the best possible chance to grow into healthy and happy adults.
In the weeks and months to come, residents will be asked to participate in meetings and groups to move forward and give this program the support it needs. Community leaders, parents, health care providers, educators, businessmen, seniors and children will all be called upon to work together and discuss priorities and programs that will help our community become even more committed to our most precious resource.
