More than seventy-five people gathered on Saturday morning for the first-ever community photograph that will be sent to members of the U.S. military who have Cornwall roots and who are serving overseas.

Local photographer James Ferrara took the photos from a bucket on the back of a fire truck. Of the two photos you see here, one was taken with a wide-angle lens and one with a fish-eye lens.

The photo will accompany a CD of music from “A Christmas Carol” that was recorded by many of the same people after the group photo shoot.  The CD was recorded at Bethlehem Presbyterian Church under the direction of Valerie Ransbottom, who had arranged the songs in the production.   Frank Ostrander made the sound recording.

Valerie Ransbottom, a music and choral teacher at the middle school, came up with the idea for Songs for Cornwall Soldiers and Brian Florio, of the Stormy Weather Players thought up adding the photo to go along with songs. (The Stormy Weather Players will be performing “A Christmas Carol” next month.)

Ransbottom’s husband Scott is a Lt. Colonel in the U.S. Army who serving with the military in Kuwait. Scott is well-known in the Cornwall community, a frequent volunteer at school events when he is home and an energetic aide to his tireless wife. Valerie says she is always trying to think of things to send over to him and other members of his unit.

Families who’d like their loved one in the military to receive a copy of the CD should write to [email protected] with the following information: requestor’s name, address and phone number, the name, rank and address of the service member; how long they’ve been in service, where they are stationed, and where they lived in Cornwall, graduation year from CCHS, or other Cornwall-related information.

If your business would like to contribute money toward the printing of photos, programs CD’s, or postage please contact Brian at: [email protected]
