General News: Student Writing Competition
November 09, 2007
From the Cornwall Public Library
Have you ever felt the power and lift of literature? Has one book – or perhaps one author – inspired you to change your view of yourself or of the world? Are you in Grades 4-12? If you have answered yes to these questions, Cornwall Public Library is encouraging you to consider entering this year’s Letters About Literature writing competition. All you have to do is write a personal letter to an author explaining how his or her work affected you.
Letters About Literature is a national reading and writing promotion program presented by The Center for the Book in the Library of Congress, in partnership with Target. There are three categories of competition: Grades 4-6, Grades 7-8, and Grades 9-12. Judges at the State level will select the top letter in each category. State winners will receive a $50 Target GiftCard and will advance to the National Level Judging. Six national winners – 2 per category – are selected by judges for The Center for the Book in the Library of Congress. Each will receive a $500 Target GiftCard and will also each win a $10,000 LAL Reading Promotion Grant for their community or school library. National Honorable Mention winners (4 per category) receive a $100 Target GiftCard and a $1,000 LAL Reading Promotion Grant. Last year Cornwall had an entry win an Honorable Mention!
The deadline for submission is December 12, 2007.
