General News: MRSA Diagnosed in Middle School Student
November 09, 2007
A student at Cornwall Central Middle School has been diagnosed with MRSA (Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus), the antibiotic-resistance staph bacteria, according to a letter from school superintendent Timothy Rehm.
In his letter that was distributed to students today, Rehm said that all preventative and therapeutic measures have been taken to protect against the spread of the bacteria and the student may continue to attend school.
Last month, the school district stepped up in precautionary measures to disinfect school property after MRSA infected two students in Orange County. Rehm also advised families to be aware of preventative measures they can take, including frequent hand washing.
