General News: The River Bank Restaurant to Re-Open Monday
February 08, 2007
Food lovers, rejoice! The River Bank restaurant, shut down on Tuesday by water damage from broken pipes, will be back open for business on Monday, February 12, in time for a romantic candle-light dinner on Valentine’s Day.
This news comes from restaurant owner Lucie Provencher, who was in Montreal on Tuesday when the accident occurred. She had been attending a memorial service for her mother, who died last week.
“Neither Tony (Missere, the building owner) or I were reachable when the pipes burst,” she said, “so the fire department could not turn off the water and had to condemn the building.” She added that initial assessments of the building being closed for two months were emotional, adding, “we had no idea of the turn-around time.”
Once she arrived back in Cornwall-on-Hudson on Wednesday, Provencher joined Missere on the clean-up. They brought in a crew that specializes in water damage who began drying everything off. Crumbling plaster was taken down and should be replaced by the weekend.
“We Canadians are very resilient,” Provencher said. “We just keep moving ahead.”
The restauranteur added she still plans on having a pianist playing romantic music throughout the Valentine’s Day dinner hour and on Sunday, the 18th, she will offer a pajama brunch, when anyone wearing p-j’s will be eligible to enter into a raffle for champagne or bubblies for the bath.
