General News: Newburgh-Beacon Ferry Service Suspended
February 06, 2007
Attention, commuters: Ferry service between Newburgh and Beacon has been suspended due to the icing of the Hudson River. It has also been suspended between Haverstraw and Ossining.
The ferry service, which has become popular with people from the west side of the Hudson who want to catch a Metro-North train at the station in Beacon, will be suspended until further notice. New York Waterways will provide bus service between the two locations.
According to one commuter, the ferry boat, the West New York, will be taken to Weehawken, possibly for a month or more. Even if temperatures increase in this area, the much thicker and more abundant ice from upstream will flow down and make navigating this stretch of the river difficult.
