General News: Randazzo Proposes Smaller Budget, Drop in Taxes
October 02, 2007
Cornwall town supervisor Dick Randazzo has finished his proposed budget for 2008 and, unlike previous years, the budget is smaller than the current budget, which will result in a tax savings for property owners if it is adopted.
“I am happy to report that usually (the budget) goes up several hundred thousand dollars a year, but this one is about $20,000 dollars lower.” Randazzo told the town board members at its monthly work session on Monday night.
Randazzo said the lower projected spending will result in a “nice decrease in the amount that property owners pay.”
The supervisor, who will be leaving office at the end of the year, said that even though the budget is smaller, it provides solid funding for the town, including an additional sergeant’s position in the police force and the expansion of a recreation department position from part-time to full-time.
He also noted that he is proposing moving a $50,000 surplus in the highway department budget to partially fund a capital improvement project for sidewalks.
