General News: Village of Cornwall-On-Hudson Board Meeting

April 25, 2015

By: Emma Friedrich

CORNWALL-On-Hudson, NY – On Monday, April 20th, the village held their monthly board meeting that started on a somber note. The Board declared a moment of silence for the Poughkeepsie Kayaker, Vince Viafore, who went missing the night before. Later on in the meeting there was another moment of silence for the recent loss of two local residents.

After a request from The American Lung Association, the Board has officially designated that the 2nd week of May will be Women’s Lung Health Awareness Week. Turquoise is the American Lung Association’s color for LungForce, their sector dedicated to Women’s Lung Health Awareness and Research. Lung cancer is the number one cancer killer in women, with only a 16% survival rate. This newly designated Awareness Week will hopefully inform everyone in the Cornwall Area of Women’s Lung Cancer. So wear turquoise, tell your friends, and raise as much awareness as you can. For more information or ways to donate visit LungForce.org

The Board wanted to inform everyone that on Saturday , April 25th, there will be a fundraiser for the Ken Kumpel Memorial at Anthony’s Pier 9 from 7-10pm. Ken Kumpel was a part of FDNY, and a Cornwall resident. Sadly, on September 11th, 2001, like many others, he lost his life when the South Tower fell. The Fundraiser is $100 a person, which includes an open bar, and the proceeds will go towards building the memorial. For tickets contact: Kevin Hines (914)879-6996 or email him at [email protected] . If you cannot attend but wish to donate, checks payable to the Kenneth Kumpel Memorial Fund can be sent to PO Box 22, Cornwall, NY 12518.

Storm King Engine will have a recruiting day on Saturday, April 25th from 11am-4pm. There will also be an open house that day, with multiple demonstrations and hot dogs, hamburgers, soda and water. So, stop by the Storm King Engine Firehouse.

On Tuesday, April 28th, from 5-10pm, Storm King Engine will have their 3rd Annual Burning Down the House Dinner at Painter’s Tavern. Reservations are strongly suggested, so please call (845)-534-2109.
