General News: Orange County Crime Tip Line

March 06, 2015

Providing Orange County Residents With an Anonymous Way to Report Crime

Goshen, NY – Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler announced today that the District Attorney’s Office has established two phone tip lines dedicated to receiving calls from Orange County residents who have information about criminal activity.

The Crime Hotline or General Crimes Tip Line may be used by anyone wishing to report information concerning any type of crime. A Labor Crime Tip Line has been set up especially to receive reports of crimes involving the workplace, particularly crimes involving failure to pay proper wages, unsafe working conditions, prevailing wage violations, workers’ compensation fraud, and other crimes where either employees or the government have been victimized. On either tip line callers may leave information anonymously, or if they wish to be contacted by a District Attorney Office Criminal Investigator, they may leave their contact information.

The two tips lines are:

General Crimes Tip Line: 845-291-2106

Labor Crimes Tip Line: 845-291-2107

“Input from the community is the hallmark of the Community Prosecution model that we have sought to implement since I took office,” said District Attorney Hoovler. “These tip lines are yet another tool that we are using to reach out to the citizens of Orange County to find out what crimes they believe are impacting their lives and their communities. My office is dedicated to ensuring that all employees, including those who perform construction and other manual labor, are treated fairly, and that criminal laws pertaining to the payment of these employees, and the conditions that they work under, including that they be properly insured, are enforced. All employees deserve to be paid a legal wage and not be forced to work in unsafe conditions. Some citizens fear retribution from criminals, or even unfortunately from their employers, and are hesitant to report crimes to law enforcement without an anonymous way to do so. I am hopeful that these new tip lines will make our residents more comfortable in reporting crimes, so that those who commit crimes may be swiftly brought to justice.”

“This new initiative expands our crime-reduction toolkit, allowing members of the community to interact more with the law enforcement officials who keep them safe and protect their rights. From my establishment of an Executive Labor Advisory Commission to our enhanced enforcement of labor-related crimes to the Countywide Narcotics Task Force, Orange County has sent a message that it will vigorously pursue all offenders until justice is served,” said County Executive Steve Neuhaus.

“Contractors who elect to cheat workers out of prevailing wages, who pay off the books, or who do not have proper licenses or insurances, should be aware that this will no longer be accepted or tolerated in Orange County,” said L. Todd Diorio, President of the Hudson Valley Building and Construction Trades Council. “District Attorney Hoovler and his staff are committed to enforcing the law to the extreme, including prosecution for those who cheat.”
