Wendell M. Brooks, of Cornwall-On-Hudson NY entered into eternal rest on August 12, 2014 at home. He was 73 years old.
The son of Donald Clarence Brooks and Elizabeth Louise Stevens, Wendell M. Brooks was born on December 10, 1940 in Warsaw, NY. Wendell grew up in Pavilion, NY.
Wendell graduated from SUNY Geneseo with a bachelor's degree in speech pathology. He continued his education at Queens College receiving a masters degree. Wendell began teaching in East Islip, N.Y. and completed over thirty years of dedicated public school service, retiring from the Monroe-Woodbury Central School District in 1998. In retirement, Wendell conducted speech screenings for the Little Lambs Nursery School and English Rose School in Washingtonville, NY. Wendell was an Adjunct Professor with SUNY New Paltz and William Patterson College. He also worked towards a doctorate at Hunter College. Wendell was a true life-long learner as well as teacher.
Wendell served on the Cornwall Central School District Board of Education for thirteen years and happily served as president for a few of those years. He was an active member of the Cornwall Lion’s Club, Cornwall, New Windsor & Monroe Horse Thieves Detecting Society, Founding member of the Jaycees, Mid-Hudson Valley Corvette Association, Storm King Golf Club and the American Speech Language-Hearing Association. A family statement reads: “He was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. He will forever be in our hearts and prayers."
Wendell M. Brooks is survived by his wife of 51 years, Dorothy Gail Zipperian Brooks at home, his son, Michael Mackenzie Brooks and wife Judith and grandchildren, MacKenzie Marie and Emily Grace of Washingtonville, NY. A brother Donald Brooks of Pavilion NY. Also many relatives, friends, and extended family.
Visitation will be held from 5-8pm on Friday , 8/14/14 at Quigley Bros. Funeral Home, 337 Hudson Street, Cornwall –On-Hudson NY 12520, NY 12520. A Funeral Service will be held at 10AM on Saturday, 8/15/14 at the funeral home. Contributions can be made to American Cancer Society and Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties Inc.
