John J. Brophy, Jr., of Milford PA, a Business Analyst for IBM for 20 years, and a former resident of Woodbury, NY and Cornwall, NY died in Allentown, PA on July 30, 2014, after a courageous battle with brain cancer. John was 43 years of age.
The son of John J. Brophy, Sr., and the late Margaret "Marge" Dietz Brophy, he was born in Staten Island, New York on August 7, 1970.
John was an active member of the Joseph Duelk, Jr. Division 1, Ancient Order of Hibernians, where he served on the Board for many years. John was also a member of the Sons of the American Legion Post 139 in Milford, PA, and a Committee Member of the Relay for Life American Cancer Society in Milford, PA. Further, he was a member of St. Vincent DePaul R.C. Church, in Milford, PA.
John was a kind and loving son, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and friend. He gave of himself freely to all he knew. He enjoyed taking care of his niece and nephew, Katie and Devin, after school. He did it so well he became a charter member of the "Gold Key School Bus Coffee Clutch". All the neighborhood kids called him "Uncle John". His greatest love was for his dog, "Disney".
He enjoyed spending time with family and friends especially the West Point Football Tailgate Parties, Picnics and parties with the AOH, and just day to day with his niece and nephew.
He has such a great capacity for love and giving that he touched the hearts of everyone who knew him. He is truly an "Angel" and will be missed by all. The World was a much better place with him in it.
John is survived by his father, of Milford, PA, his brother, Michael and his wife, LeeAnn, and their children: Katie, and Devin Brophy also of Milford, PA. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins and devoted friends, as well as his loving dog, Disney. John will be greatly missed by his family, friends and brothers of the AOH.
Visitation will be held during the hours of 2 to 4 & 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday, August 3rd and 4 to 8 p.m., Monday, August 4th at the Flynn Funeral & Cremation Memorial Centers, Inc., 139 Stage Road, Monroe, NY 10950. A Prayer Service will be held on Sunday evening at 7 p.m., conducted by the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Joseph Duelk, Jr. Division 1. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church, located at 26 Hunter St, Highland Mills, NY 10930. Cremation will follow at Oxford Hills Crematory, Inc., Chester, NY.
In lieu of flowers, John's family has specifically requested for Memorial Contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, 73123-1718 in John's name.
