Marilyn Jayne Pitcher Lane
December 19, 1931 – May 23, 2014
Cornwall NY

Mrs. Marilyn Lane of Cornwall left our world to go be with her husband on May 23, 2014. She died peacefully at home with her daughter by her side. She was 82 years old.

The daughter of Thomas R. and Marian Pitcher, Marilyn was born in December 1931 in Montrose, New York, and lived in Cornwall for most of her life.

Marilyn earned her BS in Elementary Education from SUNY New Paltz, formerly called the State Teachers College of New Paltz. She was an active member of the Arethusa sorority.

Mrs. Lane was the beloved first grade teacher of many students at Cornwall Elementary on Lee Road during her career which spanned nearly 30 years.

Marilyn is predeceased by her husband (Charles Robert “Bob” Lane) and they always gave generously to many local and national charities and organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, ASPCA, Occupations in Middletown, Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties and St. Judes Children’s Hospital.

A family statement reads: “Marilyn Lane was a kind and generous person who loved her family and Nature dearly. Many happy hours of her life were spent by the Hudson River and in Orleans, MA with her family. She gave tirelessly of herself and had many friends in the community. She will be missed greatly. Our family would also like to publicly thank Dania Brubacher and the other long-term care aides/staff through St. Lukes who provided wonderful care when it was most needed.”

Marilyn Lane is survived by her children Thomas R. Lane of Cornwall, Jennifer E. Lane of Gulfport, Florida; nephew Matthew Lane of Pennsylvania; niece Melissa Lane of Washington, DC; and nephew Jim Lane, his wife Gina Lane and their daughter Grace of Pennsylvania.

Per Mrs. Lane’s wishes she was cremated. Contributions in her name can be made to any local Habitat for Humanity chapter.

Arrangements are by Kevin Quigley of Quigley Bros. Funeral Home.
