Obituaries: James Sudler Cockey III

James Sudler "Sud" Cockey III died peacefully at home on April 19, 2014. He was 88 years old.
The son of James S. Cockey, Jr. and Frances Hoyt Cockey, he was born in Baltimore, MD on February 26, 1926. He grew up on Kent Island, on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy after serving in World War II from 1944 to 1946.
Sud was a graduate of the University of Maryland and was an avid University of Maryland athletics fan.
He worked as a Civil Engineer for C.J. Langenfelder & Sons for more than 40 years, working on a number of major construction projects on the east coast, including the N.Y. State Thruway, the Wheeling Tunnel, and the Big Walker Mountain Tunnel in Wytheville, VA.
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Fogarty Cockey and their three children: Mary Kate Linnihan, her husband, Kevin, and their children, Connor and Jack; James S. Cockey IV, his wife, Stephanie, and their children, James and Natalie; and Caroline LaFleur, her husband, David, and their children, Tess and Sam. He is also survived by a brother, Ralph of Salisbury, MD; and was predeceased by a brother, William of Kent Island, MD.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 noon Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at Quigley Bros. Funeral Home, 337 Hudson Street, Cornwall, NY 12520. Service will be 12 noon Tuesday, Burial to follow in St. Thomas Cemetery in Cornwall, NY.
