Obituaries: George R. Krom

 George R. Krom, age 92, of Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY and Ft. Pierce, FL, Retired President of Windsor Building Supplies, Newburgh, NY, died Sunday, January 12, 2014 at Kaplan Family Hospice, Newburgh, NY.

He was born September 26, 1921 in Newburgh, NY to George Krom and Helen Templeton Krom.

He served proudly in the Army Air Corp as a pilot from 1943-1946.

Survivors include his wife, Sylvia Brach Krom, at home; sons: George R. Krom III and his wife, Laura and Derek F. Krom and his wife, Sunny; daughter, Kathleen Krom and her husband, Kim Bloomer, all of Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY; sister, Nancy Krom Nicholas, of Dover, NJ; stepchildren: Charles Carnes and his wife, Bernadette and Sandy Stufano and her husband, Chris; brother-in-law, Richard Bakker of Wallkill, NY; grandchildren: Kiersten, Kayley and Brendan Carnes; also Ashley and Tyler Stufano. He was predeceased by a brother and sister: Donald Krom and Ruth Englehart.

George was past president of the Board of Director YMCA, Greater Newburgh Chamber of Commerce, The Cornwall Hospital, Member of the Empire State Sand and Gravel Association and National Sand and Gravel Association, Member of the Cornwall Presbyterian Church - Cornwall-On-Hudson, Storm King Golf Club and the Meadow Wood Country Club- Ft. Pierce, FL.

Visitation will be held from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at Quigley Bros. Funeral Home, 337 Hudson St., Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY 12520. A Funeral Service will be announced at a later date. Burial will be private.

A family Statement reads: "George always lived life at his fullest. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing bridge. He especially enjoyed sailing on Queen Mary II.

Contributions may be made to Leukemia Society, Cystic Fibrosis or the Cornwall Presbyterian Church, 222 Hudson St., Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY 12520.
