Mr. Steven J. Kapczak of Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY died unexpectedly on Thursday, August 22, 2013 at St. Lukes Cornwall Hospital, Cornwall, NY. He was 51.
He was born November 30, 1961 in Bethpage, NY, the son of the late John and Anna Samilo Kapczak. Steven married Alison Davies 20 years ago on June 26, 1993 in Cornwall, NY.
He was a first responder on September 11, 2001. He retired from the New York City Dept. of Corrections as an Undercover Detective for Special Investigations and worked at Rikers Island. He was the owner and operator of KAPKO & Sons, Inc. a construction and real estate development company.
He was a Junior Fire Fighter at the age of 13 and later became a Volunteer Fire Fighter and EMT for the Nassau County Fire Dept. in East Meadow, NY. He was a member of COBA, Corrections Officers Benevolent Association.
Surviving are his wife, Allison Kapczak, at home; two sons: Jonathan and Luke Kapczak, at home; mother, Anna Kapczak of Glen Spey, NY; three sisters: Annie Caputo and her husband, Paul of East Meadow, NY; Orysia "Irene" Lyons of N. Babylon, NY, Kathryn Stansberry-Penafiel and her husband, Pat of Massapequa, NY; eight nieces and nephews: Eric, Amanda, Nicholas, Kelly, Samantha, Emily, Christina and John. He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Olga "Baba" and Theodore "Gijau" Samilo who he loved very much and his paternal grandparents, Olena and Sam Kapczak; his brother-in-law, Michael Lyons.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m., today, Sunday, August 25th at the Gray-Parker Funeral Home, 100 E. Main St., Port Jervis and from 3 to 6 p.m., Monday, August 26th with a Panachyda Service at 5 p.m. at the funeral home. A Liturgy Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Tuesday, August 27th in St. Volodymyr's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 2104 County Route 41, Glen Spey, NY 12737. Burial will take place at Glen Spey Cemetery, Glen Spey, NY.
