Obituaries: Eugene Isaac Littman

Eugene Isaac Littman, beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, died peacefully with his wife and his children at his bedside, on July 7th, at the age of 85. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Elfriede; devoted father of Robert Littman, Sandra Finkelstein and her husband, Robert, Bonnie Gatof and her husband, Peter, David Littman and his wife, Constance; his grandchildren: Alexander, Jessica, Harrison, Tyler and Jacqueline Lee; and his sister, Geraldine Ossakow.
A graduate of Brooklyn Technical High School (Class of 1945) and Cornell University (Class of 1948), he completed his degree in three years earning Phi Beta Kappa distinction. After college, he served his country in the United States Army. Following his service, he joined his family business, ultimately transforming Lightron of Cornwall into one of the nation's leading commercial lighting manufacturers. A brilliant entrepreneur, innovator and visionary in his field, he advanced energy efficient lighting technologies that helped shape the industry for years to come. The Littman family-held companies continue to employ hundreds of local residents.
His commitment to the community extended to multiple board activities, leadership positions and philanthropic endeavors. He served on the Board of Directors of: St. Luke's Hospital, Cornwall Hospital, Key Bank and Temple Beth Jacob, where he also served as President.
He and his family's philanthropy led to the creation of The Littman Cancer Center and The Littman Emergency Center, providing state-of-the-art medical services to the Mid-Hudson Valley.
A Funeral was held Monday, July 8th at Temple Beth Jacob.
