 Milada ( Millie ) Hutto

Jan 7, 1926-Mar. 21, 2013

Cornwall-On-Hudson NY

Milada was known as Millie most of her life. Her parents immigrated from Czechoslovakia after World War 1.

Her father Albert Vanecek and her mother Maria came from two small villages in Bohemia. We visited both villages and toured her Grandparents home. Milada was born in Manhattan, NY on 7 January 1926, but was raised in East Islip Long Island until age 13 when her father accepted a job in the Cadet Tailor's shop at West Point. They lived in two different houses the last on Mountain Avenue in Highland Falls, NY I met her through Joe Pimento of Highland Falls who arranged for us to meet on the steps of the Cadet Mess Hall, Christmas Day 1943, these steps are now in the middle of the remodeled mess hall leading up to the POOP Deck.

Milada attended High School in Highland Falls and graduated with honors earring a 4 year scholarship to Lady Cliff College. She and Joan Skillen, a classmate in college came up to see myself and a cadet who lived down the hall from me. Milada and I dated until our marriage on 5 June 1946 which has lasted until her death on March 21, 2013.

We were married in the Old Chapel built in 1836 at West Point. The chapel had been moved to the Cemetery, my sister Betty J. Brown played the organ. On the walls are the plaques for the Generals of the Revolutionary War. One of them, Horatio Gates, was an ancestor of my mother, We spent our Honeymoon in Washington DC and Windfall, Indiana. From there we reported to Vance Field, Oklahoma.

Our next move was to Tucson Arizona and from there to Albuquerque, NM. There our oldest son was born, Troy Lindsay Hutto on December 23, 1948. After a stent at the Army Language School we transferred to Santiago Chile in 1952 where our second son, Todd Vance was born in the German Clinic. We returned to the States and after a short tour in Denver we returned to Albuquerque, NM. From there we attended the USAF Command and Staff School and moved to Gettysburg, PA. Tiffin Leigh Hutto joined the family there, she was born on 1 May, 1964 in Kokomo , IN.
We all moved to Alexandria, Va where Merl worked at the Pentagon and later attended the Industrial College of the Armed Forces and also completed a Master of Business at George Washington University.

In 1968 the famlily move to Weathersfield Eng, later transfered to Upper Heyford Eng. In1971 the family moved to Oklahoma City. While there Merl filled a tour in Thailand where Milada visited and then the family transferred to Wright Patterson Field, OH. From there Merl Retired with over 30 years service and the family moved back to New York where we had purchased a home in Cornwall-on-Hudson. Milada lived there for 34 years.
