Obituaries: Eileen O'Brien DeFreest

Eileen O'Brien DeFreest, 88, a retired English Teacher in the Cornwall Central High School District and a resident of Cornwall-On-Hudson, NY died December 14, 2012 at Arden Court Nursing Facility in Farmington, CT.
She was wife of the late Herbert E. DeFreest who passed away in 1985.
She was born November 7, 1924 in Schenectady, NY to James B. O'Brien and Agnes Gallagher O'Brien.
Survivors include sons, Herbert E. DeFreest III of Green Island, NY, David DeFreest and his wife, Francesca of Cornwall-on-Hudson; daughters, Eileen Rosman and late husband, Jerod Rosman of High Falls, NY, Patricia DeFreest Gorss and her husband, Steven of West Hartford, CT, Constance DeFreest and husband, Douglas Katt of Poughkeepsie, NY and Kathleen DeFreest and husband, Shep Caggiano of High Falls, NY; cousin, Joyce Hamm Sontag and her children, Michael and Katie Sontag; granchildren: Stephanie Gorss, Capt. Jerry Gorss U.S. Army, Lt. John Gorss USAF, James Gorss, Brian Katt, Heather Rosman, Jeremy Rosman, David Rosman, Liza Rosman, Daniel, Mark and Andrew Rosman, also Kathleen Rosman, and a very special caregiver, Jane Syms.
Eileen graduated from College of Saint Rose and Columbia Teacher's College; she was an Advisor for the National Honor Society and Dragon's Tale Newspaper for Cornwall Central High School; served on the Board of Orange County Ballet Theatre; was a Member of Ancient Order of Hibernians and also taught CCD at St. Thomas of Canterbury Church.
Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at Quigley Bros. Funeral Home, 337 Hudson St., Cornwall-On-Hudson, NY 12520. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Thursday, December 20, 2012 at St. Thomas of Canterbury Church, 340 Hudson St., Cornwall-On-Hudson. Burial is to follow in St. Thomas Cemetery, Cornwall, NY. Contributions in Eileen's name may be made to St. Thomas of Canterbury Church, 340 Hudson St., Cornwall-On-Hudson, NY 12520.
