Richard L. Bertero of New Windsor entered into rest after a long illness on November 30, 2012 at Elant of Fishkill, NY. He was 84.
He was born November 15, 1928 to the late John and Angela Bertero of Cornwall, NY.
Surviving is his loving wife of 60 years, Lillian Bertero; son, Stephen Bertero of Wappingers Falls; three daughters: Debra Marotta of New Windsor, Laura Capitano of Godeffroy and Aimee Bertero of Cornwall; grandchildren: Alexis Capitano, Trever Capitano, Gina Marotta, Theresa (Marotta) Cassesi and Joe Marotta Jr.; great grandsons: Thomas Cassesi, Alexander Marotta and great granddaughter, Gabriella Cassesi; sisters: Rina Bozzone of Cornwall, Julia Vecchio of New Windsor; brother, Carl Bertero of VA; niece, Donna Fanning of Newburgh and nephew, Richard Bozzone of Cornwall-on-Hudson; as well as several other nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Margaret Clarke and his brother, John Bertero Jr.
Richard was a Navy veteran, a college graduate and worked for RCA for several years. He then worked for West Point in the TV production studio in Thayer Hall and retired after 25 years. After retiring, he was a driver for the Town of New Windsor/ Cornwall DialABus for 13 years.
Richard was a long time parishioner of Our Lady of Hope, Oblates in Newburgh and then St. Mary's in Newburgh. He devoted much of his time volunteering to help the poor at Our Lady of Hope storefront in Newburgh. Richard was a kind hearted and loving man. He was loved by many, especially his family and will be deeply missed.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today, Sunday, December 2, 2012 at Quigley Brothers Funeral Home at 337 Hudson Street, CornwallOnHudson, N.Y. 12520. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m. Monday, December 3 at St. Mary's Church in Newburgh. Burial will follow at St. Francis Cemetery in New Windsor.
