November 05, 2012

Augustus William Petro Sr., known by his family and friends as “Gus”, died peacefully on Saturday November 3, 2012 at the age of 57.

Gus led a remarkable life that brought countless people together through his depth of love for people and music. He was a true artist and a creative, talented composer, guitarist, bass player, and craftsman. His memory lives on through his creations, whether his anthology of songs or the connection he forged with his family and friends. He was a loving father, always letting his children grow and discover their strengths, standing by them no matter what. He was a deep and caring companion, and a great friend who knew how to make you laugh.

In his 40 years of writing and performing music he was included in numerous bands and projects. He began playing acoustic duos with his brother Bill, which led to other groups such as “Vintage”, “August Sun”, “Hee-Say”, “Blues Inc” and “Goodbye Tomorrow” to name a few. He was a musical inspiration and was truly happy when performing with his closest friends and band mates.

Gus is survived by his loving fiancée Dawn Jack and four children: Lisa Petro, Gus Petro Jr. and wife Vanessa, Kelly Petro, and Joshua Koole and his wife Summer. He is also survived by his mother Shirley Petro, brothers William Petro Jr. and his wife Chiara, Robert Petro and his wife Nina, and sister Linda Horaz and her husband Rich. Gus has also left behind two wonderful grandchildren he loved dearly, Jayda Marie Kessler and Kash Caleb Koole, along with nieces, nephews and many friends. He was predeceased by his father, William Petro Sr.

Gus was a free spirit and left a huge impact on the people who knew him on this earth.

In lieu of services, a celebration of his life will be held on Friday November 9, from 5-9pm at My Place, 911 Little Britain Rd. New Windsor, NY. Funeral arrangements by Kevin Quigley of Quigley Bros Funeral Home- Cornwall-On-Hudson NY
