Obituaries: Victoria Veronica Parrella
September 05, 2012
On August 30, 2012 Jesus slipped His hand into Victoria's and quietly led her home after 98 active, productive and talented years.
Victoria Veronica Parrella was born to Antoni and Marianna Nosal Kolodziejski on December 22, 1913, the 3rd of ten children. She grew up in a wonderful, yet challenging time (most of us can't remember) on her parent's farm in Washingtonville, NY. Saturday night dances on their front lawn were known all around the area. Her family was well liked and well known. In the mid 1930s, she met Nicholas James Parrella at Beaver Dam Lake in Salisbury, NY and in September of 1938 they were married in St. Mary's Church in Washingtonville. The couple moved to Newburgh, Meadowbrook and finally to Cornwall, where they began their family... daughter Carol, and sons, James and David and all joined St. Thomas of Canterbury Church and school.
Victoria was a multi talented woman with a wonderful laugh. She was an excellent seamstress, terrific cook, avid bowler and great artist, leaving behind her many creations. Growing up with her, it seemed like there was nothing she couldn't do. Her coming from such a large family made summers a delight in family picnics and winter gatherings with skating, tobogganing and hot chocolate were super, never a dull moment. Laughter was the medicine of the day.
Her family enlarged with ten grandchildren, Carol's children: Peter, Brian, Cheryl and Pamela; James children: Linda, Jill, Jennifer and Cathryn and David's children: Nicholas and Anthony.
Mother loved to bowl, swim, skate, dance and play cards. She had a large circle of friends and great neighbors. She and dad traveled together and went on senior citizen trips.
Victoria put her sewing talents to use at West Point Tailor Shop. She also worked at the Firth Carpet Mill in her early years and in her later years as well.
As time passed on she became an avid reader, "Chicken Player" and developed a "wit" about her that must have laid dormant till now. There was a short stay at Montgomery Nursing Home, where she was dubbed "Queen Victoria". Many of Victoria's family and friends went on ahead of her so, leaving slowly was hard - but God had His reasons...it gave us time to hug on her.
Victoria is survived by sisters, Kathryn Hunt husband, Robert of Middletown and family, Theresa Bonacum of Arizona and family; brothers, Chester of Florida, N.Y. and Antoni of Middletown and family; also daughters-in-law, Linda (David) and Debbie. She was predeceased by her son, James, Earth's loss Heaven's gain.
A Family Statement reads: "Victoria's family would personally like to thank all the family and friends for their prayers and support: Mid Hudson Managed Home Care, FISH and especially, Dr. Nicholas Bambino and his staff; also Hospice of Orange and Sullivan during her last few days and hours. They were God's special agents to help her go home.
The family invites all to a celebration of her life with a Mass at 10 a.m. on Thursday, September 6 at St. Thomas of Canterbury Church, 340 Hudson St., Cornwall-On-Hudson, NY 12520. Burial is to follow in St. Thomas Cemetery, Cornwall, NY. Following the burial the family we have time of reflection at Black Rock Fish and Game Club, Mountainville (Cornwall).
Funeral arrangements by Kevin Quigley of Quigley Bros Funeral Home.
