January 29, 1924 – August 21, 2012
Cornwall, NY

Carmen McKenna, (nee Lightcap), joined her beloved late husband Austin in their final place of rest on August 19, 2012. Carmen was a resident of the Kaplan Family Hospice Residence. Born in Brooklyn, her early years were divided between Brooklyn and the family summer home in Mountainville. She was a retired teacher in the New York City School District. She was predeceased by her parents, husband, brother and her niece, Sondra, who she adored. Carmen is survived by many friends and neighbors.

Carmen resided in Mountainville with her late husband Austin. They shared their home with horses, dogs and many cats. Her devotion to saving the lives and caring for unwanted cats was known by many. She was a very generous person. When she heard about the loss of the swan at the Town Hall pond she immediately replaced it.

Carmen was a parishioner of St. Thomas of Canterbury in Cornwall and St. Mary’s in Newburgh. She owned Iron Mine Antiques in Cornwall for many years. She was a member of The Cornwall Republican Club and The Cornwall Library. Carmen was a talented painter and studied under several famous artists. She belonged to the Hudson Valley Tole and Decorative Painters, Orange Blossoms Decorative Artists, the Society of Decorative Painters and the Mid Hudson Wood Carvers Guild.

Special thanks to the Staff of the Kaplan Family Hospice for their excellent care and support. During her time there, Carmen was treated with dignity and respect and it provided a place for her to pass peacefully.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Thomas of Canterbury Church at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 25, 2012. Burial will follow in St. Thomas of Canterbury Cemetery.
