Our family sadly announces that Robert J. Olley has passed away in the country of the Dominican Republic on July 24th where he was in the process completing his retirement home and launching a touring business...
He was born July 7, 1949 in the Bronx, oldest son of Mary and Joseph Olley. He and his brother John were raised in Rockland County where Bob graduated and continued his education here and abroad. He was pre-deceased by his mother and father. He was in the forefront of many political and human rights advocacies in his youth. Understandably founding the organization T.O.U.C.H. in Rockland County.
A research librarian by profession, he worked in the New Hampshire State Prison , The Nyack Library and his final position was head Research Librarian for the Bronx Zoo.
An avid birder, his passion took him around the world. A world traveler and scholar he was beginning a new career in guiding birding expeditions into the mountains of the Dominican Republic and running whale watching Tours.
We would like to thank the families in the DR for caring for Bob in his final hours and helping
us with the legalities in transporting Bob home.
In lieu of flowers, a suggestion to donate to your local Audubon Society in Bobs name.
Thank you.
