Obituaries: Daniel V. O'Rourke Sr.

Daniel V. O'Rourke Sr., of Cornwall, a retired electrical engineer for IBM Corp and a lifelong resident of the area peacefully entered into rest Sunday, July 15, 2012 at St. Luke's/Cornwall Hospital-Newburgh Campus and is rejoined in heaven with his wife, Marlene "Molly" O'Rourke, of 47 years. He was 78.
Daniel was the son of the late Daniel and Helen Cavanagh O'Rourke , and was born July 16, 1933 in Newburgh. Daniel proudly served his country in the US Army. Daniel, affectionately known as Poppy, was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Daniel, a true family man lived for his children and spent the past several years traveling around the world to visit and vacation with them. To know him is to love him. To have him as a parent is a gift. He was courteous and humble to a fault, a proud Catholic and Irishman. He was an example to his kids on how to live your life. He will be greatly missed. Survivors include his children; Daniel V. Jr. of Newburgh, Patrick of Carlsbad, CA, Timothy and wife Roberta of Cornwall, Kevin of Red Bank, NJ, Brian of San Diego, CA and Kimberly and husband Daniel Putney of Norfolk, MA., Grandchildren; Michael, Danielle, Joseph, Daniel, Ryan, Caitlin, Lillian O'Rourke and Hannah, Nicholas and Ava Putney. His siblings: Bernard and wife Kathy O'Rourke, Dolores and the late Bill Taylor, Marian O'Rourke, James and wife Carolyn O'Rourke and Kathleen and husband Fred Metzger. Step siblings, Richard and the late Donna Pascoe and the late Roy and Mary Pascoe and countless nieces and nephews.
Visitation for family and friends will take place Wednesday, July 18, 2012 from 4 - 8 pm at Quigley Bros. Funeral Home, 337 Hudson St, Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY. Funeral Mass will be offered 10 am Thursday, July 19, at St. Thomas of Canterbury Catholic Church in Cornwall. Cremation will follow the Mass at Cedar Hill Crematory.
