Only a road hewn into its side keeps Storm King Mountain from falling straight into the Hudson River. The mountain, which marks the northern boundary of the Hudson Highlands, was the scene of a strategic environmental battle to stop a hydro-electric plant from being built on its slopes.
On this December day, photographer Frank Ostrander found the mighty mountain stripped bare of its leafy coverage and etched against a crystal blue sky.
