Salvatore Platania, a longtime resident of Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY, died on Sunday, June 12, 2011, at the age of 95. The son of the late Salvatore and Else Platania, he was born on October 17,1915 and was raised in Shavertown, NY.
Sal was a career soldier in the U.S. Army, serving in both WWII and Korea. After 26 years of military service, he worked in the transportation office in West Point from where he retired. He will long be remembered for his kind demeanor and true appreciation for both family and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Gladys Platania; their two sons, Richard Platania of Highland, NY and Daniel Platania and his wife Veronica of Morgantown, WV; his brother William Platania and his wife Josephine of Farmingdale, NY; his three grandchildren Richard Platania Jr. of Highland, NY, Jennifer Platania of Burlington, NC and Christopher Platania and his wife Meagan of Huntersville, NC; along with eight surviving nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers George and Joseph Platania.
There will be no visitation. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 16th at 11:00am at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 58 Clinton St, Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 58 Clinton St, Cornwall, NY 12518. Arrangements are under the direction of Quigley Bros Funeral Home, 845-534-9424.
