People: Officer Pena Joins C-O-H Police

Officer John Pena |
August 08, 2006
For police officer John Pena, a five-year connection to the Cornwall-on-Hudson police department came full circle when he became a full-time officer on the force at the end of July.
Pena was sponsored by the village when he entered the Dutchess County police academy in 2001, although he paid for the schooling himself while studying at night. After he graduated in May 2001, Pena worked part-time in the village until he was hired to fill a full-time position in the Newburgh police department. In Newburgh, he investigated many crimes, from domestic disputes to homicides.
When a full-time position opened up in the village police department, Pena was hired back.
Asked why he wanted to return to village police life, Pena joked that here in C-O-H people wave at you while in Newburgh they spit at you.
Born in Brooklyn, Officer Pena spent four or five years in Puerto Rico as a young child. He moved to Newburgh in 1990 and has made the area his home ever since.
