People: Where Is He Now? Ralph Smith

When he went down to Florida this winter, former Cornwall-on-Hudson water department superintendent Ralph Smith ended up in the newspaper – but for a good reason, it appears.
Smith, who retired from the water department at the end of 2004, goes down to Indian River county in Florida before the snow starts to fly up north.
This year, Smith worked for Habitat for Humanity on a project building 81 homes in Grace Grove, a subdivision created by Habitat. That's when a reporter from the local paper interviewed him and took his photo.
Smith says he has worked on homes from framing to completing all outside work: framing, trusses, soffits, fascia, siding, trim, roofing painting and back yard sheds.
“It keeps me busy in the mornings and leaves the afternoons for working on my condo, the beach and visiting friends down here,” Ralph writes, adding that he has met a lot of great, caring and interesting people in Florida.
“I will be back in town the end of March, hoping not to freeze and looking forward to resuming all my ‘northern activities,’” he says.
Smith (in red) appears in the photo published last month in the Press Journal of Vero Beach, Florida.
