Obituaries: Donald True

February 25, 2011

Dr. Donald True of New Windsor passed away February 21, 2011 at Valley View Nursing Home after a long battle with progressive supranuclear palsy. He was born January 7, 1927 in Syracuse, NY, the son of Donald and Pearl True. Donald was the widower of Patricia K. True.

Donald proudly served in World War II as a Navy Seabee. He attended Syracuse University where he played freshman football and received his degree in education. For thirty-three years he was a member of the Hastings on the Hudson School District as a physics teacher, dean of students, and interim principal.

A life-long learner, Donald, attended 13 colleges and received many degrees including a doctorate in Physics from Columbia University’s Teacher College. An avid sports enthusiast, Donald enjoyed waterskiing, golf, and snow skiing . His favorite activity was spending time entertaining his grandchildren. He was a loving husband, a doting father and grandfather, and a great teacher.

Survivors include his daughter, Terri True Jessen, and husband, George, of New Windsor, NY; son, James True and his wife, Debra McGrath, of Pittsford, NY; son, Timothy True of Deer Park, NY; brother, David True and his wife, Muriel, of Saratoga, NY; sister Constance Lima of Arizona, seven grandchildren , one great granddaughter, and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff at Valley View Nursing Home for their support and care. Also they would like to thank New Windsor Adult Day Care , Mark Weinberger of Cornwall, and John Kuryla of Stony Point for their care of Donald.

There will be no visitation. Arrangements for brain tissue donation will be made to the Eloise H. Troxel Memorial Brain Bank Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida.
